Ted Ross (June 30, 1934 – September 3, 2002) guest starred as Cornelius X. Mayflower, an old practical joking Navy buddy of George Jefferson whom George tries to patch up an old grudge that he has from one of George's old pranks in order to get a building permit approved for the Help Center in the Season 5 episode "How Slowly They Forget".

Ted is perhaps best known for his role as the Cowardly Lion in The Wiz on Broadway( he won a tony award for it) and in the film adaptation He won a Tony Award for the original 1975 Broadway production, and went on to recreate the role in the 1978 film version which also starred Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell. Ross went on to appear in films including Police Academy, and on the television sitcoms Benson, The Cosby Show, and its spin-off A Different World. His final role was in the 1991 movie The Fisher King. Ted appeared in many stage shows and films with famous actors like James Earl Jones, Richard Pryor, and Billy Dee Williams.
